Grow Out of Season
When you plan ahead you can grow fresh produce year round…
If you’re a gardener, you know that there are many different methods to grow great plants. Gardening is a hobby to some, but others take the joy that is derived from it to a whole new level. Some enjoy getting down and dirty in the soil of an open garden, but others prefer the shelter that is afforded by a greenhouse.
Still others use a combination of the two to achieve the most from their gardening experience. They know that if they want the earliest blooms and vegetables, it is critical that they take advantage of the temperatures and moist climate inside a greenhouse.
If you would like to join the ranks of greenhouse gardeners, here are some things you should think about.
Size
Before you choose to build or buy your greenhouse, you must first consider the size that you are going to need. As a general rule, the size should be based on what you intend to use your greenhouse for. If you are going to use it for starting seedlings early for spring planting, it may not need to be as large as one that will be used to house your plants throughout the year.
Something else you will have to determine in regards to size is the amount of space you have in which to build. Along with that, if you are just starting out with greenhouse gardening, you may want to start out small and hope to enlarge it later on when you are better educated in its use. Even if you do build a greenhouse that is larger than your current needs, you can still use the extra space provided to store items from your garden in it.
Ventilation, Heating And Cooling
When building a greenhouse garden, it is important that you build in adequate ventilation to allow extra moisture out and help cool it during hot days. It is also critical that you have a way built into your greenhouse to heat it during cold winter or spring days to prevent stressing the young plants.
Water
Watering the plants in your greenhouse is another important element of having a successful garden, and that goes for greenhouse gardening. Some people simply use a garden hose to provide necessary moisture to their plantings, but others install a watering system that makes it easier to get water where it is needed. Before building your greenhouse, be sure that you plan what you will do about water.
Since you are reading this article, that means you are probably interested in building your own greenhouse. If so, you need to find good plans that will help you achieve this goal. There are many plans to choose from, and various places to find them. Using the information given above will help you choose wisely.
